Are you putting the cart before the horse? Tripping over dollars picking up pennies. All old idioms most of us have heard before. Our new one is, Are Your Attendees Worth a Bag of Chips?

When planning a break, or a reception, or a cocktail hour, most event team’s tic the boxes, and think nothing of it. Ordering soda, coffee, tea, water, cookies, cheeses, crackers, meats, and yes chips. This past month at the conclusion of the cocktail hour held at a major hotel chain in Southern California the event staff was handed a bill, which include consumption of individual chip bags, billed at $6. each.

What value did the bag of chips hold? Did the chip bag increase sponsorship revenue? Did the chips increase brand recognition for the conference host, or the sponsor? Did the chips increase engagement? Did the chips increase post event activation, or give the attendees a reason to visit the sponsor’s social sites? Did the bag of chips increase sponsorship revenue? Did the chips give the attendees a reason to remember the sponsor? No, no, no, no, no & no.
